Beautiful Books in Korea 2010
'아름다운 책 2010’이 2011년 7월 1일부터 7월 10일까지 서울 서교예술실험센터에서 열립니다. 2010년 발행된 책들 가운데 아름다운 스물다섯 권의 책을 선정해 소개합니다. 이 스물다섯 권의 책들은 각각 수 권, 혹은 수십 권만 발행된 독립출판물에서 수백 권의 한정 제작된 전시 카탈로그, 대형 출판사의 책들에 이르기까지, 손바닥만한 책에서 신문 크기의 책까지 다양한 스펙트럼을 보여줍니다. 이 책들은 각자 출판된 맥락과 환경을 고려하면서 콘셉트, 세부적인 디자인, 제작 등의 일반적인 측면의 완성도를 가려 세심하게 선정되었습니다. 그러나 한편으로는 상대적으로 이전과 다른 출판, 디자인계에서의 상이한 몇가지 흐름을 어렴풋이 감지할 수 있는 특별한 목록이기도 합니다.
이번 프로젝트는 전시로 시작해 출판으로 마무리됩니다. 전시 기간 동안 서교예술실험센터에서는 선정된 책들과 함께 책들을 디자인한 디자이너들이 영상을 통해 자신들이 디자인한 책에 대해 이야기합니다. 7월 2일에는 프로젝트의 기획위원들의 토크가 열립니다. 앞서 밝힌 흐름들에 대해 몇가지 단서들을 이 토크를 통해 얻으실 수 있을 것입니다. 토크에서 발표될 내용과 선정된 책들의 상세한 양상과 정보는 이후 출판될 책을 통해 만나실 수 있습니다.

Beautiful Books in Korea 2010 introduces the 25 most beautiful books of 2010. The selection embodies a wide spectrum of books, from pocket-sized books to newspaper-sized books, from independent publications and exhibition catalogues to that of big publishing houses. It was selected upon the basis of quality in terms of conception, design, and production, considering the respective context and background. The list also captures recent flows of publication and graphic design in Korea that are distinguishable from the past.
The exhibition includes the selected books as well as the video of the designers’ interview on their books. There will be also a public talk of the jury on July 2, where some of the clues of such flows will be presented. The contents of the talk and the detailed information of the books, alongside with more articles on publishing, will be published later as a part of the project.
